This two piece set was greatly inspired by the colours of Red Canna and the shape of Music, Pink and Blue no.2 by Georgia O'Keeffe. The combination of the two created form unlike any I have explored before, fusing fluidity and passion. I wanted to take the elements from her beautiful paintings and pair it with a very modern silhouette. Toying with the idea of creating a demure yet sensual piece of clothing. The colours were achieved through painting cotton with fabric dye, whilst using a watercolour method. Using large synthetic paintbrushes, the pieces were painted multiple times, layering the dye to create opaque and saturated colours. The layering of the thin dye allowed for a soft and blended finish. The pieces were sewn using yellow thread to further highlight the colour scheme.
In addition, function and fashion is an idea that I constantly explore throughout my textile pieces. Mixing, matching, changing and creating ways to allow fashion to be much more than just a garment. With this thought in mind, I decided to take my set and explore the possibilities of how style could alter and change it, resulting in two contrasting looks, vibes, and photographic styles.
